Festival Panel Discussions

Translating Stories, Translating Lives, 17th March, 5-6pm.

The first panel discussion of the 2021-22 Festival, ‘Translating Stories, Translating Lives’, will bring together writers, translators, and academics to consider the pleasure and challenges of translating and being translated.

Joining us on the panel will be School of Humanities lecturers Dr Atef Alshaer and Dr Hannah Copley who will share their experiences working together to translate Hannah’s English language poems into Arabic. The event will include a reading of these poems in both Arabic and English.

Atef and Hannah will be joined by Dr B.J. Epstein (UEA), B.J. is a writer, editor, and translator from the Scandinavian languages to English and has published academic work on queerness and translation, including on how translation might shape the queerness present in YA fiction.

The event will take place on Thursday 17th March 5-6pm (online) and booking is here: https://bit.ly/3pMb1rn

As well as being part of the School of Humanities New Writing Festival it’s also part of the University’s World in Westminster Festival.
